Hi! Andrea here! I’m 11 years old and I’m really excited to add my own take and twist to this wonderful site my mum (you know her as Sue) and I have put together about inspirational women who play sports.
It all started when we were watching the Lionesses play Spain in the World Cup Final and a thought popped into my head, “Does Liverpool have a women’s team?”, my mum thought they did and started looking and it all started from there.
After a while, we went to our first match. The atmosphere was like nothing I had ever experienced. There was singing, chanting, and (obviously) football. At first I did not know any of the player’s names, but I enjoyed looking for them using the program. (I’ve still not learnt them all, but I’m trying). At the end of the match we noticed lots of people going to the front … so we followed. The players began walking round, meeting the fans, giving signatures and having photos with the fans. Mum immediately whipped out a pen and handed me the program, and I got my first autograph! Lucy Parry!
One of my favourite parts of the match was when the opposition would have scored a goal if it wasn’t for Emma Koivisto. I knew then that she would be my favourite player, well until she left the club at the end of the season (not before I got a signed photo with her and she signed my shirt). I was so sad to see her go, my mum was scared to tell me when she heard the news as she knew how sad I’d be. I was on the look out for a new favourite, and one caught my eye. This player got gets the balls loads of time and has scored or nearly scored lots, she’s amazing. My new favourite player is Olivia Smith!
Now I’m a loud and proud supporter of women’s sport, and I’m so excited to try new sports, go to different grounds and watch different teams. Mum already has cricket and hockey lined up as well as lots more football matches.
oh, and one last thing, every month I will be writing a report on “my Inspirational woman of the month!” so look out for it!
