Hi everyone! I'm back again (and I won't be stopping anytime soon)! Sorry for the silence, I have been busy with my SATS and end of term work, but I'm back for another write up.
So, on the 17th of May, I went to my very first rugby league game! We went back to The Totally Wicked Stadium and this time to watch the St Helens team play against Leeds Rhinos, and it was super exciting!
It was me, Mum, and Willem, and we got there and parked up, ready for the game. But when we walked over, we heard that there was already a game going on! At first, we thought we were late, but it turned out it was the Academy teams playing (which is like the younger team). So, we got to watch that game for a bit.🏉
While we were watching, I got a hot dog to eat. It was SO good. Mum had just bought us a new camera for the website, and I had SO much fun taking photos!📸
I was trying to get the best shots of the game and even some cool ones of the players.
After the match, the Academy players came over to the side lines. They started chatting with their family and friends, it was lovely to see all the happy smiling faces, you could tell they loved the game. Some of them even sat near us after the game! I thought it was so cool how they were just regular people.
I wanted to learn more about the game, so I went and got a team sheet📄. It helped me understand what was going on a lot better, and the game was way easier to follow. I learned lots of new rules from my mum too! The hand signals the referees use were really easy to understand, and I could see what was happening with all the players in one spot.
There was one part when music just suddenly started blasting, and it scared me! But then I started giggling because it was so random. Another funny moment was when two of the St Helens players picked up a Leeds player and carried her like a fish!🐟 (It’s against the rules, but it made me laugh so much).
At first, it looked like St Helens were going to lose, but they didn't give up! They played SO hard in the second half and ended up drawing the game. It was awesome!🩷
I definitely want to go again because I had the best time ever. Next time, I just need to read more about the substitute rules and figure out what the 18th player thing is all about.❓
Oh, and at the end of the game, I got to take a picture with a player! I would have loved to get more pictures, but we had to leave to watch the Eurovision Song Contest (which was awesome too!🎶).
Can’t wait for the next rugby game!
NEXT STOP: We’re heading to another brand new sport for our next outing…cricket! We’ll be watching a T20 match at Old Trafford. Before then, keep an eye out for the next issue of Floodlight going live at the weekend, you won’t want to miss this one!🏏
