With the new season just around the corner, we wanted to do something really special to celebrate the incredible Liverpool Women squad. As a team (except Willem, he only cares about who has the best chants), we have all come together to share our thoughts and experiences, highlighting the players who inspire us week in, week out, the ones who make us cheer, gasp, and celebrate alongside them. And where better to start than at the back? The keepers and defenders are the fearless players who put their bodies on the line, pull off heart-stopping saves, make game-changing tackles, and set the tone for the whole team. They form the foundation of Liverpool Women’s strength and give the rest of the squad the freedom to shine. This is the first part of our two-part series and a collective tribute from us as fans to the safe hands and solid defenders who make every match a thrill to watch and every season a story of determination, skill, and heart.

No. 1: Rachael Laws
A natural shot-stopper with a clear passion for the club, Rachael is always vocal in the best way. Her encouragement lifts the whole team, pushing everyone to work harder and stay focused. When a goal does go in, she has the amazing ability to put it behind her instantly and focus on the next challenge, even though you can see she’s tough on herself afterwards.
One of Andrea’s favourite things is how she celebrates with the fans. After a goal, she often turns to the crowd, cheering and sharing in the excitement as if she’s one of us. She gives back the same passion we send out and always takes the time to connect with fans, even after a tough match.
No. 12: Rafaela Borggrafe
Our new German keeper from SC Freiburg has already got us all excited to see what she’ll bring to the team. Andrea has loved her interviews, honest, heartfelt, and full of personality. She talked about missing her friends back in Germany, but also about how Liverpool feels like a family. Andrea thinks she’s spot on and can’t wait to see Rafaela quickly settle in, feel at home, and make plenty of new friends in red.
No. 22: Faye Kirby
A real fan favourite (maybe because she’s Scouse), though for us four, we haven’t yet had the chance to see her play in person. After her time out injured, it was brilliant news to hear she’s back to full fitness. We’re really looking forward to finally watching her in action and seeing what she brings to the pitch.

No. 2: Lucy Parry
Andrea has had a soft spot for Lucy ever since our very first trip to Liverpool, when Lucy gave her first autograph, a moment Andrea still remembers and treasures. She was one of the first player Andrea could recognise, which instantly made her extra special to us.
On the pitch, Lucy shines at full back, but her impact doesn’t stop there, she’s always looking to push forward, create chances, and support the attack. Watching her development over the seasons has been such a joy; you can see her confidence, awareness, and skill growing with every game. At the start of the 24/25 season, she stepped into a big role and helped make the gap left by Koivisto feel much smaller, showing just how reliable and capable she is. Beyond her abilities, it’s her determination, energy, and the way she always gives her all that make her a player we love to watch and cheer for.

No. 3: Gemma Evans
We weren’t quite sure what to expect from Gemma at first, we didn’t watch many Manchester United games (shocker, we know!). In her debut, she didn’t seem the quickest, but wow, were we wrong! She has pace in abundance and over the season has really started to come into her own at Liverpool. Versatile, committed, and always ready to slot into different positions, she has already shown just how valuable she is to the team. It’s only been one season, but we can’t wait to watch her continue to grow, sharpen her skills, and make an even bigger impact in red.
No. 16: Lily Woodham
Another exciting new signing this summer, she arrives with the fire and spirit you’d expect from a true Welsh dragon. Fresh from helping her national team qualify for the 2025 Euros, and then going on to represent them with pride, determination, and real talent in the tournament, she joins Liverpool Women full of confidence and experience. Her international performances have already shown her ability to handle the big stage, and we can’t wait to see her bring that same energy to the red shirt. With her skill, grit, and passion, she feels like exactly the kind of player who can make an impact both on and off the pitch. This season will be her chance to settle in, make her mark, and show the fans just what she’s capable of, and we’re buzzing to watch her journey unfold.
No. 4: Grace Fisk
Another adaptable player, Grace might be most at home in a back five, but she’s strong and effective in any position she’s asked to play. Solid and dependable, she reads the game brilliantly and has fantastic vision both on and off the ball. Watching her switch effortlessly from pushing forward to create chances to sprinting back and shutting down counterattacks is a joy (she seems to always be in the right place at the right time).
On top of her skills and intelligence, Grace is such a delight to watch because of the way she plays, always with a huge smile and a sense of enjoyment that’s contagious. You can tell she genuinely loves being out there, and that energy lifts the whole team and everyone cheering from the stands.

No. 17: Jenna Clark
Our tall, strong Scottish defender is calm, composed, and completely reliable on the pitch. Her height makes her a real threat in the air, whether it’s defending set pieces or helping the team win crucial headers, but she’s just as accomplished with the ball at her feet (something that some people overlook). Quick for a centre back, she isn’t afraid to step into midfield, drive the ball forward, and create chances when the opportunity arises, showing just how versatile and complete a player she is. Watching her play, you can see her intelligence and awareness shine as she reads the game.

No. 23: Gemma Bonner
What can we say about Bonner? She’s definitely a firm favourite in our household (Sue’s absolute favourite!)
A true legend, she leads with confidence and passion that inspires everyone around her. She’s never afraid to put her body on the line, whether it’s a crunching tackle, a last-ditch goal-line clearance, or stepping into a challenge that could make all the difference. Her skills are incredible, from reading the game perfectly to timing tackles just right, and you can see how much she cares every time she pulls on the red shirt. She lifts the whole team and the fans around her, and watching her play is nothing short of a joy.

No. 34: Hannah Silcock
Another local hero, Hannah has been part of Liverpool since she was just eight years old, coming up through the academy and showing on the pitch just how much hard work, dedication, and determination it takes to succeed at this level. Even though she’s still young, she’s already a strong, composed defender who plays with confidence and maturity beyond her years. What’s really exciting is how clearly you can see her learning, adapting, and growing with every game. Her awareness, decision-making, and ability to read the game are constantly improving. Watching her develop is genuinely a joy, and it’s obvious she has a bright future ahead. She’s the kind of player who makes you excited for the next season and beyond, and we can’t wait to see how she continues to make her mark in red.
That wraps up our tribute to the fearless keepers and solid defenders who form the backbone of Liverpool Women. We hope you enjoyed hearing our thoughts and seeing why these players mean so much to us. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the next edition of our series, where we’ll be celebrating the midfielders and forwards who light up the pitch and keep the goals coming. You won’t want to miss it!
